This post is going to be hard for me. Not because it's about sex. But because I don't have experience with the softcups during sex. But the winner of the softcups last month, Troopetrie surely does. And she was kind enough to share her experience right here. I have to say I really never thought about her situation.

Looks like everyone.

No one in their right mind likes to hurt. I use to think cramping was just part of being on your period. I always had them, sometimes I would just take pain medication to get rid of them. But for me as soon as I removed the tampon, I didn't have that cramping feeling. So when I learned about Instead Softcups, I was willing to try them....I thought what could it hurt. If I didn't like them I could always go back to using tampons.
But if they helped my cramps just a little I would be happy.

I know I have said over and over Instead Softcups have changed my periods. The only regret I have is not finding out about these sooner.

How Comfortable is it? And how long can it be worn?

Are Instead Softcups comfortable?

I have had a few women ask me this.

Simple short answer, YES.
Let me first start off by saying when I first bought these at CVS, I remember getting to the van and as soon as all kids were buckled up I had to open the box and check them out. I was really excited. Until...

Ok, I'm not going to lie, my first thought was...There's no way!

Its huge.

How could this ever be comfortable.

And how in the world am I going to get it in. Probably what you may be thinking right now.
Well you insert it by pinching it like this,

makes you feel better, right?

Well I'm here to tell you they are comfortable.

Fact is when inserted properly they are so comfortable you don't even feel its there.

These are far more comfortable than any tampon that I have ever tried. And I have tried most. :) Of course the first few times you try the softcup it may take awhile. It did for me. It is a learning experience.

Remember like with anything new it takes time.

And trust me It's so worth it. When I say these have changed my periods they really have.

How long can Instead Softcups be worn?

Up to 12 hours. Now that doesn't mean on heavy days you can wear it for 12 hours. Usually for me its about 8 hours for heavy day. But we are all different and its trial & error. Just like with anything else. But it surely beats changing tampons every 2-4 hours.

You can also wear them overnight, in the pool, on the soccer field, riding your bike, any sport or activity.

I personally love that I don't have to watch the clock so much. I can go to the grocery store, library and post office and not have to worry about it.

When we went to the beach, they were a lifesaver or should I say vacation saver? :)

I think everyone tries to be green in some way. And I think we all can do better. I know I can. I know before I made the switch to Instead Softcups I used Playtex Tampons. And never really thought about that pink applicator I threw in the garbage after a few seconds of use. I mean seriously think about it. You use it for 1-3 seconds, and in the garbage it goes. YOU never see it again. But it really never goes away.

Tampons come with ridiculous amounts of packaging, which most of it is non-recyclable. So being the researcher I am I decided to research how long it takes a tampon to decompose.

Well since tampons have only been around for 70 years there's no way of knowing exactly the time frame. But researchers are saying 300-500 years!

I know some of you are thinking that the cups are just disgusting (see pic above) and you could never use them. That's what I hear often from women.

Some women are actually flushing these in the toilet. Now if they are flushed and end up in the ocean chances are your plastic applicator will be ingested by some animal.

Lets look at the money part...

so lets say I use 2 a day for 5 days that's 10 a month.
10 x 12 months = 120 a year vs 300-400 tampons you would use in a year.

It may be different for you, it would depend on length of your period and flow

I have been using Instead Softcups for about 6 months now. Oh how I wish I had found out about these oh 10 years ago when they first came out.

Anyways, it never fails If I'm on vacation, or there's a holiday coming up, or some other important thing I have to do, I am on my period. Like I need something else to deal with!

I usually start at the end of the month around 23rd-26th. So what does that mean this month?....UGH!!! yes you guessed it, Christmas.

But I know this year is going to be so different. Why? Well now that I only use Instead Softcups I don't cramp as much, I don't have to visit the bathroom every few hours because Softcups can be worn up to 12 hours. On my heavy day I can wear them 8-10 hours before changing. Yes 8-10 hours. Isn't that a good enough reason to try them?

I won't even have to pack a purse full of plastic applicators just to get me through the day. I will be able to ~~sit~~ ~~relax~~ watch my children open gifts and enjoy all the drama and gossip my family will have this year. :)

Who would ever want to miss that?
( all families do have drama, right?)

How great would that be for you? No more running to the bathroom every 2,3,4 hours. Not just during holidays but anytime. I'm busy enough with 4 children. Who has time for all those bathroom breaks?

I surely don't. Let's leave those for the kids.

2. Are you a real Christmas tree kinda person or do you go with a real fake one?

Here's my question. Well we are actually going to get a REAL tree this year, going to a Christmas tree farm and cutting it down ourselves. Or atleast try. We have always had the....(cough cough) real fake tree with the pre-lit lights and all. Which was all great the 1st 3 years. All the lights actually worked, it wasn't full of dust...But I gave that old dust filled 9 1/2 foot tree away.
I can not wait for a real tree, a tree from the United States, and not one MADE IN CHINA.

3. What are you thankful for?

My Family, Our Health, My husband working so I can homeschool our children.

4. Which fashion fad from the past do you wish you could wear today?

I'm not one to follow fashion. If I like it I really don't care if its fashionable.
But I don't want to see the MC Hammer baggy pants ever again, or the tight rolled jeans. I can't remember any others. I prefer T-shirts & jeans. :)

5. Do you wait until the "low fuel" light comes on before you fill up the gas tank?

lol this one is funny. I always wait until my light comes on, but then I know I can drive 25 more miles. I have been known to pull in the garage and have 2 miles until empty. So my mad husband has to find the lawn mower gas tank thing and put me some in so I can make it to the gas station. :) He <3s when I do this.

Whoa! I did it, and the kids aren't even up yet.

Day 1 Hilton Head

Oh where has the time gone? It seems to fly by for me. So a couple months ago we went to Hilton Head for a week. So much fun.

I absolutely LOVE the beach and wanna move.

And as you can see the kids had a blast

...running from the ocean waves

...walking nice & slow taking it all in

...holding on to Daddys leg,1st time at the beach

....playing in the sand

...sitting in the ocean and having the wave splash on him

....running

..and the biggest kid of all

...can't seem to keep his shorts on

...hmm like father like son

...even putting sand on your feet

...building sand castles with your Uncle Ethan

Our Trip to Savannah

We loaded up and left around 11 Friday morning. The kids,my mom and I made our way to Savannah. We had lunch at Chick Fil A, and finally made it to our hotel where we unloaded a few things then decided to go to Savannah. Not somewhere I care to go back. Well maybe when the kids are older. So not stroller friendly. Camlin likes to walk but the sidewalks are small. Cars,and trolleys go up and down the road so close to where you walk and so fast. It was not fun for me at all. Shops are not stroller friendly.I couldn't get my stroller in some of the doors.

We liked seeing the boats but thats about it.

After Savannah we headed back to our nasty smelly hotel and waited for Scott & Ethan to get there. They got there around midnight. And finally I was able to fall asleep.

Are your children too young for PG-13 movies?

Scott & I went to see this Transformers Dark of the Moon on Saturday. I really don't care for movies like this but it was pretty good. Anyways there were a pretty good amount of children in the theater. Even under the age of 13. Although its PG-13 some parents think its ok to take their 5,6,7 year olds. I personally think it should be rated R. The little boy sitting behind us was no older 6, he was crying at one point. I even mentioned to Scott I can see a Dad taking his child to these types of movies, but a Mother!

This child should have been watching Winnie the Pooh.

Parents are suppose to protect their children. Not expose them to violence.

I don't understand it at all.

I think It's pretty clear why this movie is NOT for children....
"Transformers : Dark of the Moon" is rated PG 13 because of 'intense prolonged sequences of sci-fi action violence , mayhem and destruction , and for language , some sexuality and innuendo'

~GROWN UP, ADULT MOVIES are for GROWN UPS and ADULTS.

You're children are growing up fast enough why expose them to the violence at such an early age?

What part of that don't parents understand.

Don't wonder why little Johnny is being so violent after taking him to see this.

When they turn 7,8,9 are they going to be allowed to watch rated R? age 12,13 rated X? When will they be allowed to drink, have alcohol?

How I organize school work..

Heres how I organize the boys school work for the week. I use 2 pocket folders nothing fancy.
I use the same color for each day for both kids, its easier to grab same colors in a hurry. (not that I'm ever in a hurry).

I write the kids names in the bottom corner of each folder.

On the inside To Do: on left side Completed on the right. The boys can open it up see what needs to be done, once done they move it to the other side. This prevents "am I done?", "how much more?"....

I store all the folders in a tub, each child has their own. If there are books that we are going to read they go in here. Also any other things we are going to need for the week.

I store the workbooks, books, supplies in these storage drawers. Each child has 2, thats 6 drawers each. Labeled as Math, Language Arts,Phonics, Science, History, and Handwriting. I still have things to put away this past week we got Science & History so all thats on top and in between~ the mess!

I always get their stuff ready on Sunday for the week. So there thats how I do it.

The kids are enrolled in the K-12 program. I love it!!

Tampons vs Cups

Alright you may not know there ARE other options than just tampons when its that time of month. Other than pads, there are different cups.

Nurse-In Forest Park

What a day it has been. Got up around 7:30 and out the door with the kids by 9:00.After loading the van with a million and one things, food, toys, blankets, drinks, more toys, cloth diapers, wipes, 3 carriers. What did I think, I was gonna carry 3 kids around.

It amazed me to see so many people today. What a great feeling. There were older moms, younger moms, grandmothers, dads there holding signs and supporting breastfeeding. There was even an attorney in a suit with a breastfeeding shirt.

New Breastfeeding Law in Forest Park...

I was appalled when I first heard it. Is there not more important issues to deal with in the city? Lets look at the crime rate in Forest Park- Whoa! Crime Rate is higher than the GA. average. Seems they have alot of burglaries, thefts,and robberies. And yet they are worried about "nudity" (nursing moms).

I would think they should focus on peoples safety and not at what age moms should stop breastfeeding in public. Whats next you can only breastfeed in public between the hours of 12-4? Not to mention age discrimination. Its ok at 23 mos, but not at 25 mos.

I wonder what brought this on. Just when you think things are moving forward with breastfeeding they really aren't. It worries me, what will it be like when my little girl becomes a mommy. Will she be looked down on for doing whats best for baby? Will my boys be as supportive as their Dad?
Educate your children about it, like you do everything else.

Even if your children are grown and you no longer BF. Support Breastfeeding in public everywhere! Even if you chose not to BF, your child or children may choose too especially if they have moms support. :)

About Extended Breastfeeding which I assume is after a year.

Lets see what The AAP says:

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that "Breastfeeding should be continued for at least the first year of life and beyond for as long as mutually desired by mother and child... Increased duration of breastfeeding confers significant health and developmental benefits for the child and the mother... There is no upper limit to the duration of breastfeeding and no evidence of psychologic or developmental harm from breastfeeding into the third year of life or longer."

The American Academy of Family Physicians recommends that breastfeeding continue throughout the first year of life and that "As recommended by the WHO, breastfeeding should ideally continue beyond infancy, but this is not the cultural norm in the United States and requires ongoing support and encouragement. It has been estimated that a natural weaning age for humans is between two and seven years. Family physicians should be knowledgeable regarding the ongoing benefits to the child of extended breastfeeding, including continued immune protection, better social adjustment, and having a sustainable food source in times of emergency. The longer women breastfeed, the greater the decrease in their risk of breast cancer." They also note that "If the child is younger than two years of age, the child is at increased risk of illness if weaned."

Theres lots of coupons for "junk" but theres alot for healthy foods too. I do not buy boxed meals, like hamburger helper, or kid cuisines. Not saying I never buy junk like the chips, cookies, (you fill in the blank)__________ . I need chocolate sometimes. :)

I do buy whole wheat pasta, whole wheat bread, organic eggs, organic milk, organic frozen vegetables & fruits, organic yogurt, organic cheese,organic chicken, juice, nuts,hummus oatmeal...I can go on and on. All these things I listed have coupons.

This is just a small list. And an idea. Just because theres always coupons for Fruity Pebbles, GoGurt, Kids Cuisines doesn't mean theres not healthy options that have coupons to. And if you think Go Gurts are healthy because its yogurt...think again. Has more sugar per ounce than a Coke. Not to mention the dye...gotta make that pink & blue somehow. We buy the Stonyfield Yo-Squeeze.

You just have to look & research. Heres some Target's Printable Grocery Coupons and heres more Print Coupons

If you shop at Target you can use their store coupon, and a manufactures coupon to save more money. And some grocery stores will even take Target store coupons as a competitor.

Sometimes going to their website you can print coupons. If its something your family eats lots of like Cascadian Farms organic edamame (we do) you can look on ebay and buy 20 coupons for .99-2.00 and when it goes on sale you stock up. You may not need those 20 bags of edamame that week or even next week but you got them on sale and used a coupon. And didn't wait till you ran out and were forced to pay full price.

Shop with the sales then plan your menu. Don't make your menu then shop you will spend alot more.

Don't be brand loyal either- you may find you like another brand just as good or better. Like Mayo I remember growing up my mom bought Blue Plate. Well now theres others I like because I was willing to try it and got it free or cheap using a coupon.

If you are using cloth diapers why not use cloth wipes? They can be washed with the diapers and will save you $.

And I want to get some more glasses. A couple months ago I finally had an eye exam and got new glasses. I made a mistake of purchasing a pair right then. Well $200 later. Oh I was sick. I do not lot spending money on myself at all. Well my mom was telling me about a lady she worked with that bought prescription glasses online for $7.95. I was thinking theres no way. I just paid $200 and got $99 frames. So the researcher I am went home and researched, googled, and found Eyebuydirect. Prescription glasses for as low as $7.95. That includes the frames and lenses. Yes the lense too. Shocking, right.

Shocked! Mad! Felt Ripped Off. I just spent $200.

I made Tilapia Stuffed Crab, scallops, baked potatoes, and corn. The kids had apple juice. They loved every bit of the whole dinner.

Then the kids opened their cards from Nanny, Pawpaw, Aunt Toni & Uncle Buz.

And the kids gathered up their money, and I cleaned up. What a fun time we all had.

Chicken Tacos in the Crockpot ~

I have been asked several times for several months to share my crockpot Chicken Taco recipe. So here it is.

What you need:

1-2lbs chicken tenderloins (or breast)
taco seasoning pack
1-can black beans
1-can corn (or frozen works good too)
cilantro
Tostitos Restaurant Style salsa (or you can make your own)
chopped garlic (add how much you want)
onion

Add chicken,garlic,onions, and taco seasoning.

then add salsa

Cook on low for 6 hours or high 3-4 hours

Add cilantro and shred chicken with spoon, fork, or tongs.

Then it will look like this

Add beans & corn ( I didn't add corn this time )

But make sure you shred the chicken before you add the beans or you will have smashed beans.

Unless of course you like mashed beans.

Stir

Add more cilantro

Enjoy~

on a whole wheat tortilla

or on some nachos.

I'm actually a parent all the time but over at Avant Garde Parenting Blog I am the parent of the week. So what! I was nominated by my husband. Atleast someone thinks I'm a good parent. :)

To be honest, when Jamie first emailed me in December and asked me and told me my husband nominated me I was not happy. I am not a writer, nor do I think I should be parent of any week. But I said yes I would do it and then threatened his life if he ever nominated me for anything every again.....LOL (I was serious!)

I wonder if I would ever be nominated as Wife of the Week, probably not so I better take the Parent of Week and have fun with it. Thanks Jamie!

So I am sitting here and my wonder wife T who operates this blog is in the bath. Now while normally I would be at work at this time, we were attacked by Ol' Man Winter again last night and we received the gift of 4+ inches of snow and a healthy topping of ice, so I got me a snow day. Another thing I usually try to force my way into the bath with her but that never works....

So I am hijacking her blog. I am writing a post on her blog, partly since she is using my computer to do pictures from today.

Lets go back to how we got to this point. We started yesterday searching for gloves for the kids cause, the Winter Snow Storm 2011 was on the way. Here in Georgia, we are not prepared for that. Loaded up the firewood and waited for it to hit. Last night while I was at the gym, the offering from the Snow Gods started to fall. It snowed and snowed snowed.

It snowed some more. We ended up with a little over 4 inches. I was not about to go to work. Too much snow and ice for our area. The whole city of Atlanta and outer cities had shut down.

So today we got the kids dressed, which only takes about 4 hours since we have no snow suits. We have to bundle them up in 4 layers of clothes. We played outside and Carson built his first snowman. Talked to our neighbor as we watched other neighbors try to get out on the icy streets only to turn right back around.

We played out back too after Carly and Camlin took naps. They were wore out. I watched the news and laughed as all the people that tried to get out in this stuff ended up stuck or in a wreck. Playing out back was fun, the most fun. Running around with the kids and getting all snowy.

Came in took off all the millions of layers of clothes and then got the kids in the bath and then ate dinner. Now the kids are having a little bit of Wii time and Tracy, like I said is in the bath. What better time to hijack her blog and give a little recap of our day. Might be groundhog day tomorrow too, cause the stuff that is on the ground is going to turn into ice and that will be much worse than snow.

Now I could have hijacked her blog and blogged about how the Atlanta Falcons have to play the Packers next Saturday. I could have blogged about how I am so glad I didn't have to work today even though we need the money. I could have blogged about the funny movie we watched last night Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Or just the fact that I am a great studly man who gives his wife awesome love. But NO. I decided to keep it clean and simple.

I love Tracy so much. She is the one that got me into blogging, so why not hijack her blog and put a little of me on it.

I recently have learned about food dyes and what it does to our childrens health. And like anything else if it bothers me I do something about it. I'm not one to put on the blinders. And is there ALOT of food with these dyes- fruit snack, butter, soups, cheese, cereals, yogurt and alot more. Go check out your cabinet and fridge and let me know what you find.

What can you do?

Write your Senator and Congress asking them what they are doing to push the government to obey the food safety laws and ban these dyes.

We took the kids to see TS3 ~~last weekend~~ a couple of weekends ago. Maybe even a month ago

....better late than never. :) I got tickets through Kelloggs. When Kelloggs cereals would go on sale at Publix. I would buy them and of course use a coupon. Well actually lots of coupons. And enter codes and redeem for movie tickets. So instead of spending $12 a ticket for 5 of us. I spent about $6 a ticket, and have about 30 boxes of cereal to eat.

Who can afford to go to the movies these days? Certainly not us. It would have cost us $60, just to see the movie. We could wait and buy the DVD when it comes out. One for each kid.

I took in snacks, and drinks for the kids. My mom & brother went with us.

The kids LOVED it.

The had a blast!!

Now we are even more excited to go to Disney to see Woody, Buzz & Jessie.

365 days later

It all started here, when we found out we were having another little boy

About 6 days before you were born.

I was so ready to see you...

in person, and snuggle ,kiss ,hold and hug you.

And of course breastfeed you.

Then you met your brothers & sister. And 3 became 4.

You fit perfect in my arms, and I held you alot.

And before I knew it you were smiling, laughing, rolling over..

And I was enjoying every moment. You are so laid back, and easy going you just go with the flow.

Then you starting sitting up.

And changing every day.

I think when you know its your last you cherish every little thing a little bit more.

No matter how small it is.

.Its true they do grow up so fast.

And in a blink of an eye....they are 1.

I wish I could keep you little...

But you have to grow up. :(

Now you are crawling,standing, climbing, and getting into every thing.

And even learning to walk, and talk.

No I didn't want this, yet. I had it in my mind if I carried you alot I could keep you from walking too soon.

I guess it didn't work like that.

But you better believe I am still going to keep cuddling, kissing, carrying, holding, and cherishing every second.

A day at the pool

I hate this Frigidaire Oven!

I should have returned it to HHGregg when I had the chance. When we first got the oven the bottom part where the drawer is stayed really really hot after it was turned off. Even after an hour.

Camlin stuck his fingers in the little space right above the drawer and got burned. We called the Service Tech he came out, nothing was wrong with the oven.

It holds heat well he said.

No shit! Really....

And he said with the new ovens the heating element is at the bottom, right above the drawer and they would all be like that.

Well now he has burned the top of his hand, and I feel horrible about keeping this piece of shit. My old oven did not do this and as mismatched as it would have been. I should have just kept the old white oven.

I will be contacting Frigidaire about this.

But even if I was getting something out of the bottom drawer and accidentally touched my hand or finger on the top part I would get burned.

Pampers New Dry Max Diapers Causing Rashes?

Dear P & G,

I'm sorry to tell you not ALL babies get diaper rashes. And Moms do know best. I have not tried your diaper personally and probably never will. I prefer Cloth on my babies butt. Its better for them, and better for this thing called Earth that we live in.

Here's an idea, why don't you come out with a cloth diaper, real cloth not the almost like cloth. Instead you keep putting more and more chemicals in your diapers to make them ultra super thin, but more absorbent.

gorgeous... and I love it! I love the sun, and the heat. And being away from the computer.

I was on it waaaaaay too much. It consumed too much of my kids time. I was spending more time talking, debating, chit chatting with people I didn't know.
And that bothered me.

I can't stand a messy house, and when I'm sitting on my ass somethings being neglected. Atleast in my book.

Anytime Camlin needs help Carson is always there

whether it be him standing and not being able to get down, getting to close to the gate because someone forgot to shut & lock it. Or if he has decided to be a carpet muncher for the day. He seems to find the smallest, little itty bitty whatever in the floor.

And it goes right in the mouth.

It's my fault.

I never had kids put anything in their mouths.

Until now.

Rubber Mulch, Toilet Paper,Hair (I know disgusting), paper, oh the other day I saw him going for a lady bug.

But I'm glad Carson is here to help watch after him, and relocate him.

I think this is the most ridiculous article about breastfeeding I have ever read. Clearly this lady, Kimberley Kennedy has really no clue about nursing.

Go to page 62 here and read the article- Mom to Mom The Practical Side of Breastfeeding.
There are a few things I do agree with.
1-see a Lactation Consultant
2-ok maybe just 1

But then she goes on to state, before sex you should pump so your nipples don't leak. That should be interesting. "Hold on honey, I need to go pump these jugs before we do the pants off dance off (as my hubby calls it)" Oh don't forget to wear a sexy bra too, not your nursing bra....lol

And this lady tells you how to put in a nursing pad, really it's not rocket science.

How do you know baby is getting enough milk? well someone that knows anything about breastfeeding would say that 5-6 wet diapers in 24 hours.

How often do they eat?
She says at first 3-4 hours I say more like every 2 hours for newborns.

Now this is a good one- When do I nurse if I have an appointment? I don't get it. Feed your baby before, during, after your appointment.

When do I start bottlefeeding? my answer- don't. BREASTFEED.

What do I wear? she suggest loose fitting clothes so you can nurse discreetly. And she suggest a car would be most ideal. - Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. Nurse everywhere. Be proud you are giving your baby the best possible start in life.

I think my 13 year old niece could have wrote this article.

So Atlanta Parent- before you have someone write an article on a subject like breastfeeding might I suggest to you make sure they know a little something about it.

I love using coupons, and saving as much money as I can.

I feel thats it my job to make our money go as far as I can.

I have always used coupons, but now I really use coupons.

Not too long ago I found a blog (can't remember which blog) that had a post about coupons being a waste of time, and she didn't use them because she doesn't buy boxed meals.

News flash I don't buy meals in a box either. My family eats pretty healthy, and thanks to coupons I can buy organic fruits, vegetables, and milk.

Yes it may be more expensive but its worth it to me. I use this list to help me figure out what is worth buying organic.

I figure if I can spend $4-8 on chips,cookies, unhealthy junk. I can spend $7.99 on organic strawberries. I would rather spend my money on healthy organic fruits & vegetables.

I shop at Publix. Before I was a WalMart shopper and always thought I couldn't afford to shop at Publix.

WRONG! I can't afford to shop at WM now.

How many of you go into WM to pick up one or two things and end up spending $80?

because you see things that you really don't need, but think oh thats cute and its only $___, I'll get two of those or no one for each kid.

Then you get to the cash register and forget what you went in there for.

I also shop at Sams Club.

Back to Publix- I love this site. She matches all coupons, shes local. She saves me tons of money & time.

I wish I had some receipts to show of how much money I save. I will have to keep the next few.

So if you aren't using coupons, you are losing and wasting so much money.

And don't say you don't have time for it. I have 4 children. You make time for it, especially if its going to save you money.

Whether it be flip flops, sneakers. He will grab them and wear them to the mailbox, to start the grill, to the store. Ok not to the store.

I have no problem nursing anywhere, but alot of moms do. I wasn't always like that though. I know with Carson I would try and hide him under a blanket. Or I even got Scott to hold up a blanket.

The more I nursed the more comfortable I got.
